Dumpster Placement on Your Driveway
A Cade Bros dumpster needs a spot about 8 feet wide and 12 to 22 feet long, depending on the size, plus a clear, straight path for the truck. Our drivers set wood boards under the rollers and rails on every concrete or asphalt driveway.

How much space does a dumpster need?
The 10-yard dumpster needs about 12 by 8 feet, the 15-yard about 16 by 7.5 feet, and the 20- and 30-yard dumpsters about 22 by 8 feet. The roll-off truck typically needs about 60 feet of straight approach and about 23 feet of overhead clearance to set the dumpster down.
| Size | Footprint | Height | Truck needs (typical) |
|---|---|---|---|
| 10-yard | 12 ft × 8 ft | 3.5 ft | About 60 ft straight approach, 23 ft overhead |
| 15-yard | 16 ft × 7.5 ft | 4.5 ft | About 60 ft straight approach, 23 ft overhead |
| 20-yard | 22 ft × 8 ft | 4 ft | About 60 ft straight approach, 23 ft overhead |
| 30-yard | 22 ft × 8 ft | 6 ft | About 60 ft straight approach, 23 ft overhead |
Will a dumpster crack my driveway?
Cade Bros drivers place structural wooden boards under the dumpster's steel rollers and rails before setting it down. The boards spread the weight and keep metal off your concrete or asphalt, to protect it from cracks and scratches. Placement is still your choice, so avoid new or already-cracked concrete.
- Keep the dumpster off septic lids, sprinkler heads and soft lawn.
- Avoid concrete poured in the last few weeks.
- Leave room to open the rear door for loading.
What blocks a dumpster delivery?
Parked cars, low-hanging wires and branches, and locked gates are the three things that stop a delivery or pickup. If the driver can't drop off or pick up the dumpster because of a blockage, a $125 dry-run fee applies. An overfilled dumpster also counts as a dry run.

Do I need to be home for dumpster delivery?
No, you don't need to be home if the drop zone is clear. Our driver sends an automated text or calls 20 to 30 minutes before arriving to confirm placement. Deliveries happen between 7:00 AM and 5:00 PM.
Do I need a permit to put a dumpster on the street?
Putting a dumpster on a public street or sidewalk often needs city approval, while private driveways are handled by your city's and HOA's own rules. Check with the City of McAllen or your city before delivery day, and check your HOA rules too. Tell us the plan when you book.
Placement questions
Can I put a dumpster on the street in McAllen?
No. McAllen's city code (Chapter 90, Article IV) prohibits placing private containers in city rights-of-way. In McAllen, your dumpster goes on your driveway or private property.
Can the dumpster go on my lawn?
We don't recommend it. A loaded dumpster is heavy and can sink into soft ground or crush sprinkler heads. A paved driveway or a firm, level surface is best.
What if my HOA has rules about dumpsters?
Some HOAs limit how many days a dumpster can sit in a driveway or where it can go. Check your HOA rules before you book so we can deliver on the right day.
Who decides where the dumpster goes?
You do. Mark the spot or tell the driver when they call ahead. The driver places it there as long as the truck can reach it safely.
Can you place the dumpster behind a gate?
Yes, if the gate is open and wide enough for the truck on delivery and pickup day. A locked gate leads to a $125 dry-run fee.
